Being part of one of our hard-working community groups is one of the best things about living in Zama. Being a volunteer here opens up opportunities that you might not find anywhere else.
Remember all those childhood dreams that you have about the 27 different careers that we want to have when we are older (if you can't remember, ask your mom to find your kindergarten list of "What do you want to be when you grow up?" and take a peek)... living in a small community opens up all sorts of possibilities to get your feet wet and try a lot of those careers!
Speaking as someone who has lived here for over 10 years, and thinking back at the question "What do I want to be when I grow up?"... here's what I remember from my list:
- Work at a newspaper
- Drive an ambulance with the lights on
- Own a gift store with lots of cool stuff
- Drive a big truck
- Be a secretary (like my mom)
- Be a Firefighter
- Be a bartender and make those fancy drinks with umbrellas
- Put on one of those big christmas parties, and invite Santa (like my mom & dad used to take us to)
- Be a politician
- Help animals
- Be a doctor or a nurse
Okay after reading this list, do you remember yours... Taking advantage of the possibilities of living here I have done each of these things in some form or another. Being a volunteer and getting involved enriches your life as well as everyone else around you. If you don't believe me, GET INVOLVED, and see for yourself.
